Akash Gautam Event

“Bollybulary hits Allahabad”

EVENT BASED ON VOCABULARY BUILDING

Presenter: Akash Gautam- India’s leading motivator, trainer & communication expert.

Date: 4th September 2012

Venue: Kanha Shyam

Time: 4.30 pm

Akash doesn’t need any introduction; he is not only a motivator and mentor but also a vocabulary expert. His events are a hit among students especially the CAT aspirants as his techniques are very handy in vocabulary building. His past events have been a huge success; the latest one was a gatecrasher!!

Glimpse of the Event:

“Veni Vedi Vici”. Akash came, Akash saw and Akash conquered. Allahabad was witness to an event of awesome magnitude for the fifth year running. For students who are used to dull, dreary and drab seminars, it was an afternoon which would be etched firmly in their minds for ever. Normally, vocabulary is an area which no one treads with confidence. But Akash shared such amazing tips on the learning and the retention process, that it sent the confidence of the students soaring. Learning English vocabulary could be so much fun, was incomprehensible for most students. Popular Bollywood chartbusters electrified the atmosphere and rocked the entire ambience, since the overwhelming majority of the audience consisted of the ‘generation next’. With his characteristic wit, he kept the audience in splits. To keep an impatient generation captive for close to three hours was an achievement in itself. The entire hall was chock-a-bloc with students with even standing place at a premium. This was surely the Baap of all Akash events, since for the first time scores of students were forced to sit on the bare floor. Volunteers were constantly seen asking people to move out from the front of the screens. A conservative estimate put it at around 1200 students (this does not include the close to 300 who had to be turned away by the venue management due to paucity of space)!

MOOT COURT COMPETITION

To be Organised by Career Launcher Allahabad, 28th October '12

 Concept of MOOT COURT:

What is mooting?

Mooting is the oral presentation of a legal issue or problem against an opposing counsel and before a judge. It is perhaps the closest experience that a student can have whilst at university to appearing in court.

Why should I get involved in mooting?

Mooting now forms a compulsory part of certain law courses, but is still a totally voluntary student-organised activity in other law schools. The experience of mooting will have a positive impact on your future career.

As many students will be aware, the legal profession is an increasingly difficult one to enter. Application forms for legal professional courses, solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers often demand that a candidate can provide evidence of their advocacy or mooting experience whilst at university (over and above any of the more traditional areas of advocacy such as debating).

Mooting may also help you to build confidence in public speaking, general research, and presentation skills. In other words mooting experience can benefit every student whether or not one plans to follow a traditional legal career path upon graduation.

How is mooting done?

The Problem

A typical moot problem is concerned solely with a point (or points) of law. Normally it will take the form of a case heard on appeal from a lower court with the grounds of appeal clearly stated.

The Teams

A moot usually consists of four speakers, divided into two teams, each consisting of a leading and junior counsel. One team represents the appellants, the other the respondents. Mooters may be judged individually or as a team.

The Moot Court

The moot 'court' should reflect, as far as possible, a courtroom scenario in reality. The moot is presided over by at least one judge who delivers a judgment at the end of the moot on the law and on the result of the moot itself. The presiding judge is supported by the clerk of the moot who is responsible for providing the judge, when required, with a copy of each legal authority cited by the mooters in the course of their arguments. The clerk also times the moot speeches. The two teams of mooters sit at separate tables, taking turns to stand to present their arguments to the moot court.

A moot 'speech' will normally have a time limit of between 15 and 20 minutes. So be prepared to be on your feet, either presenting your argument or answering questions about your argument, for that amount of time. For the duration of their arguments the mooters are required to maintain the appropriate courtroom manner (remembering, to address the court and fellow counsel in the accepted form). Further, to add a touch of authenticity to the moot, the participants are often required to wear gowns.

Preparing for a Moot

  1. Identifying the grounds for appeal

Mooters should first read the moot problem carefully in order to ascertain the precise grounds of appeal.

  1. Conducting research

Given that most moots are team competitions, it may be convenient to divide the research between the leader and junior, but co-operation is essential because many moot teams lose because each team member is unsure what the other is arguing. (MOOTERS can refer to text books; footnotes for research).

  1. Structuring and presenting the argument

Having decided what view the participant is representing they are expected to persuade the judge to accept. They need to work out how the argument is to progress to that conclusion. The easiest way to note down the required stages of the argument is by arranging each discrete point in a sensible order and then numbering them accordingly.

The submission should be brief, as intelligible as possible. Excessive use of legal jargon should be avoided. When formulating the arguments, basic issues should not be ignored.

Finally, after all that — do not read out the moot speech. It is an aide memoir only. The moot will test not only your ability to present the argument, but also your response to questions and flexibility when interrupted by the judge.

What exactly is mooting?

A simple question, but it is surprising how many in the legal world, as well as outside it, have no idea what a mooting competition is.

In a moot, two pairs of 'advocates' argue a fictitious legal appeal case in front of a 'judge' (normally a lecturer or postgraduate student). To win, it is not necessary to win the legal case, but to make the best presentation of the legal arguments.

Why MOOT?

Mooting is useful for developing legal skills of analysis and interpretation, but also personal skills of argument and public speaking.  Mooting is also useful, of course, for those considering a legal career, either as a solicitor or barrister.

Where do such sessions happen?

Many universities now have a mooting course or module available as part of a law degree. It may also be available to non-lawyers - check with your law department. If not, student law societies generally run their own mooting programme, often featuring internal competitions.

AKASH GAUTAM TEACHES ALLAHABAD TO ‘BINDAAS BOL’

Date 19 Feb 2012. Time 10:30 a.m. Venue: Hotel Kanha Shyam.

A cyclone named ‘Akash Gautam’ hits Allahabad. After almost 3 hours the storm abates but not the after effects.

If that read like a weather report, rest easy, we are talking about the phenomena called Akash who mesmerized Allahabad on the above mentioned date. About 1200 footfalls comprising of students, intelligentsia, glitterati, paparazzi and the entire Career Launcher Allahabad staff were held captive to a masterly display in the art of communication skills by one India’s finest trainers, motivators and coaches, namely Akash Gautam.

In his inimitable style (many feel that he should apply for a patent!), he spoke at length on the art of communicating with all kinds of people. He advised that we should speak less and listen more. He gave valuable tips on voice modulation, on the importance of exhibiting energy and a positive body language. Smiling was a topic that he revisited several times during his presentation. Tips on the Personal Interview which proves to be many a student’s bugbear, included the advice of “Show – don’t tell” – show value. He stressed on the importance of courtesy and propriety in behavior. Everyone who has met Akash earlier knows about his sense of humor which borders on the wacky at one end and raunchy on the other. Therefore it came as no surprise when he advised the assembled populace to develop a sixth sense, the sense of ‘humor’. He also emphasized on speaking with spontaneity and fearlessness.

The most sagely advise that he proffered was that we should communicate with our parents. We should listen to them, talk to them with empathy. He recalled the sense of fulfillment that he got when he took his own mother for a ‘date’. He decried the practice of complaining all the time. “Face your problems, not Facebook them” was another of his ‘Akashisms’. The one slogan that was probably a big take away for the audience was that “Happy people are more successful”. Akash ended the seminar with the amazing one liner that “vDy Bksdjsa [kkus ls vkrh gS cnke [kkus ls ugha

All in all, the seminar was received enthusiastically by the audience who had come with great expectations and went back without their hopes belied. The Director Mr. Gaurav Agrawal in his welcome speech recounted the history of Career Launcher Allahabad and emphasized that CLA was the only institution in Allahabad that organized so many similar events where entry was completely free for the benefit of the Allahabad people at large. A number of significant Academic luminaries like Dr. Tripti Singh, Senior Faculty MNNIT, Dr. Vaibhav Singh, noted Commerce faculty and Mr. Gaurav Gulati, Director United Group of Institutions were felicitated with special ‘Bindaas Bol’ mementos. Mr. Vishal Gulati, the Joint Director proposed a vote of thanks. The entire event was conducted by Ajoy under the overall management of Shashank Somvanshi, Centre Head CLA. Abhishek Singh, Ayushi, Abhishek Mathur and Devendra Mishra provided valuable back end support.

The consistent results year after year with more than 300 IIM call getters in the last 10 years and many more from other esteemed B-Schools of the country were a proof that this year’s result was no flash in the pan. That this is no idle boast is further proved by the fact that no other MBA Entrance Training Institute in Allahabad has even mentioned its call getters.

All the above mentioned students were felicitated with a unique memento by the Chief Guest Prof. G.K. Rai, Director IPS (University Of Allahabad). He is Professor & Former Head, Department of Ancient History, Culture & Archeology, University of Allahabad. As a professor of Ancient History, he initiated on pioneering joint project with the IIT Kanpur on “Application of Digital Technology for the study and Preservation of Archeological Heritage” since 2003. He is also member of AICTE Team for Nationally Coordinated project on “Technology & Archeology”. He is member of several National Committees.

The Director, Mr. Gaurav Agarwal congratulated the students and wished them success in their future.

The students on their part thanked CL and their mentors especially Shashank Sir, Sanjeev Sir, Abhishek Singh Sir, Prabhat Sir,and Ajoy Sir who played a big role in their success. They were also grateful for the support provided by Ayushi Ma’am and Devendra Sir.

The reason for such stupendous results is easy to understand. The high quality and extensive study material, the standardized coaching pedagogy and the personalized mentorship by the trainers combined to produce such results.

Career Launcher has carved a niche for itself in the field of MBA coaching and the results of the last few years bear testimony to this fact. It proves that last year’s performance by students from Career Launcher was no fluke. Years of consistently providing top results in MBA entrance, has given not only us, but also the students who enroll with us a quiet confidence to prepare not only for the written exam and subsequent GDPI but also for the larger battle in the life ahead.

The entire function was conducted by Ajoy.
